APL (or M3 type) accounts 10% of all acute myeloid leukemia and is the most dangerous one. Usually, APL is treated by chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Unfortunately, many patients treated with these methods relapse and become drug tolerant, thus being more difficult to treat. The side effects were few and minor, according to the pilot study done at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City and published in New England Journal of Medicine.
